What to look for
Droppings or chewed food packaging, particularly in cupboards and storage spaces.
Scratching or movement in walls. Sound alone cannot identify the animal.
Note the room, time and route of each sighting rather than guessing how many mice are present.
Tell us whether the activity is in your kitchen, basement, garage or more than one part of the property. A sighting upstairs and signs around a basement entrance raise different questions. A photograph of the area can be useful to discuss, even if you never see the mouse itself.
In a Montréal duplex, triplex or apartment building, include your floor and any activity reported in shared spaces. That context helps define what needs to be assessed beyond the room where you first noticed a problem.
Ask which spaces will be assessed, what control measures are proposed and how progress will be checked. Entry-point repairs, removal of contaminated materials and additional visits should be discussed explicitly; don’t assume they are included in an extermination price.
For your request, the useful starting points are the property type, affected rooms, how long the activity has continued and any previous attempts to deal with it.
Questions
One sighting does not establish the size of the problem. Record any other evidence and whether new signs appear. An assessment is more useful than estimating a population from one mouse.
Yes. Small gaps at doors, foundations or service penetrations can provide access. Ask for suspected routes to be considered alongside the activity indoors.
Record dates, affected rooms and any activity in common areas. Let the property manager know what you’ve observed and clarify who will arrange access before an appointment is scheduled.
